What Is trusty-tools?
trusty-tools is a unified Cargo workspace for the trusty-* family of AI-assisted development tools. It brings shared Rust libraries, daemons, MCP servers, a multi-agent platform, and an orchestrator into one repository with one lockfile.
The project is MIT licensed and uses a minimum supported Rust version of 1.94. Its crates can still be versioned, tagged, and published independently even though cross-project changes can be handled in a single commit.
Core Capabilities
The workspace covers hybrid code search, a memory system, code analysis, agent orchestration, and supporting infrastructure. Its flagship tools implement the Model Context Protocol, allowing them to work with Claude Code and other MCP clients without custom integrations.
trusty-search combines BM25, vector, and knowledge-graph retrieval through Reciprocal Rank Fusion. It supports named project indexes, intent-based routing for definition, usage, conceptual, and bug or technical-debt queries, plus branch-aware ranking and caller/callee expansion.
Architecture and Documentation
Components are organized beneath a shared crates directory, while extended product documentation, specifications, and architectural decisions are maintained alongside the code. Workspace-wide architectural choices use dedicated decision records, and crate-specific decisions remain with their respective product documentation.
A machine-wide search daemon can manage multiple project indexes. The wider workspace also includes supervised services and Unix-socket-based communication for its tooling, with the console serving as the network-facing component described by the project roadmap.
Platform and Distribution
Prebuilt packages are provided for macOS on arm64 and Linux on both x86_64 and arm64. The common workspace is designed to keep related tools consistent while preserving separate release lifecycles for individual crates.
