Overview
OpenSH is an AI shell assistant for people who want to describe a terminal task instead of recalling the exact command syntax. It generates a command from the request, explains what the command does, and can run it immediately.
The assistant is available for Windows as well as macOS and Linux, using the shell conventions of each platform rather than presenting a separate command environment.
Key Features
- Generates shell commands from natural-language requests.
- Explains generated commands before or alongside execution.
- Uses project structure, file types, and recent history to produce context-aware suggestions.
- Runs with PowerShell on Windows and Bash or Zsh on Unix-based systems.
- Requires no dependency outside Python.
How It Works
A user states the outcome they want, and OpenSH translates that intent into a command suited to the current shell. Its awareness of the surrounding project and recent activity gives it additional context when forming a suggestion.
The auto-execute capability combines generation, explanation, and execution into one flow. Because the tool uses native PowerShell, Bash, or Zsh, the resulting commands fit the operating system and shell already in use.
