Overview
Breadcrumb is an AI context manager and computer activity recorder for Mac. It turns screen activity, meetings, AI transcripts, and past decisions into local memory that supported AI tools can query when helping with ongoing work.
The product connects directly with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and opencode. Its context can help a new AI chat continue earlier work without loading an entire previous conversation.
Key Features
- Captures on-screen activity, meetings, AI sessions, and a timeline of the user's day.
- Organizes work into moments, chapters, sessions, notes, and scoped context.
- Applies persistent rules globally or to a specific project folder.
- Converts repeated instructions or longer workflows into reusable shortcuts.
- Lets AI tools retrieve relevant captured context through MCP tools.
Rules and Scopes
A scope associates a folder with its own rules, so project-specific guidance applies automatically when work happens in that location. Global rules can remain active alongside scoped rules, allowing behavior to carry across different AI tools while preserving project boundaries.
Corrections can also become permanent rules. This gives developers a conversational way to establish constraints that persist beyond the current chat or agent session.
Privacy and Local Processing
Recordings stay on the Mac and are encrypted with the user's key. Local models handle transcription, speaker naming, and organization of daily activity, while Breadcrumb states that it does not build voice profiles.
Users can exclude apps, websites, and selected words or phrases from recording, and incognito sites are not recorded. When a cloud AI receives requested context, that provider's own privacy policy applies; using a local AI keeps that exchange local.
