Overview
iimos is a self-modifying AI agent delivered as a single chat interface. Its user interface, local server, tools, and system prompt are all part of its own source code, allowing the agent to alter itself in response to a request rather than producing a separate artifact.
The agent, its code, and user data remain on the local machine. It requires a user-provided model through an endpoint compatible with the OpenAI Responses API.
Key Features
- Rewrites its React interface, styles, server behavior, tools, and system prompt.
- Reloads after changes and reports what changed and how the revised interface works.
- Can add capabilities such as scheduled data retrieval, alerts, or specialized interactive experiences.
- Responds in the language used by the person chatting with it.
- Keeps the application server restricted to the local machine and token-protected.
Safety and Recovery
A launcher outside the modifiable application takes a snapshot before each boot. If a changed version fails to start twice, the launcher rolls back to the last working snapshot while retaining the broken version on a separate branch.
A recovery window loads none of the application code and provides rollback, factory reset, and a minimal rescue agent. The command-line interface also exposes status, snapshot, log, diff, rollback, reload, restart, and add operations.
Setup and Architecture
The documented installer targets macOS on Apple Silicon. During first launch, the chat asks for the model endpoint, API key, model name, and context-window size; the key is stored in a permission-restricted local configuration file and sent only to the selected endpoint.
On first run, the launcher seeds an application workspace backed by a Git repository. All agent-made changes occur in that workspace, while the launcher remains fixed and handles startup, bookkeeping, snapshots, upgrades, and recovery.
