Overview
Pacer is a lightweight macOS menu-bar utility for monitoring the consumption pace of AI coding subscriptions. It supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, and multiple accounts, presenting the selected account's session and weekly outlook as two rings.
Unlike a simple percentage meter, Pacer projects where usage will stand at the next reset if the current pace continues. This makes an apparently low usage percentage easier to interpret in relation to elapsed time.
Key Features
- Displays projected session and weekly usage with green, amber, and red visual states.
- Keeps menu-bar rings synchronized with the account selected in the detailed card.
- Produces a short recommendation when pace is excessive, including model-mix adjustments when supported by the data.
- Estimates account-specific model weights by combining official usage percentages with local transcripts.
- Reports API-equivalent cost over rolling daily, weekly, and 30-day periods.
- Sends notifications when projected usage crosses 100 percent, returns below it, or a usage window passes 90 percent.
Account and Data Handling
Each subscription observed on the Mac retains its latest reading. Logged-out accounts show their last usage and check time; after a reset passes, the corresponding window returns to zero, and accounts unseen for a week are forgotten.
The implementation consists of a dependency-free Node sampler and a Swift application. Measurements are stored in a JSON file that other local tools can read, while transcript data from configured Claude Code profiles can contribute to cost and model-weight calculations.
Requirements and Operation
Pacer requires macOS 13 or newer, Node 18 or newer, Xcode Command Line Tools, and at least one supported service login. It can run as a service that samples every ten minutes and survives reboots, or be built from source with a launch agent installed for the same interval.
The sampler runs at boot independently of the app. Adding the app to macOS Login Items makes the menu-bar interface available automatically after sign-in.
