Overview
Jellex is a web client for Jellyfin that aims to faithfully recreate the visual experience of Plex Web. It is a single-page application and was written entirely by the Claude language model through directed development sessions.
The client communicates with the Jellyfin API directly from the user's browser, so there is no separate Jellex backend service to operate.
Key Features
- Provides a Plex Web-style interface for accessing a Jellyfin media server.
- Connects directly to Jellyfin from the browser.
- Supports signing in to a user's own Jellyfin server.
- Includes an option to sign in to Jellyfin's public demo server.
- Deploys as a Cloudflare Workers application.
How It Works
After Jellex is deployed, the user points the application at a Jellyfin server and signs in. Browser-side API communication handles the connection to Jellyfin without routing requests through an additional custom backend.
For local development, the repository uses npm commands to install dependencies and start its development server. A separate build command creates the production build, while Wrangler is used for Cloudflare Workers deployment with the included configuration.
Use Cases
Jellex is intended for Jellyfin users who prefer a Plex-inspired browser interface while continuing to use their Jellyfin server and account. It also serves as an example of a frontend application produced through directed sessions with an AI coding model and packaged for deployment on Cloudflare Workers.
