Overview
Chai UI is a design system for creating interfaces that interact with generative AI models. It provides reusable components with built-in use-case guidance, helping developers assemble AI application experiences around a consistent interaction model.
The system is based on Material Design 3 and can be styled through an application's own design tokens. Its documentation covers components, tokens, and setup for generative AI projects.
Key Features
- Reusable components designed specifically for AI model interactions
- Material Design 3 foundations for consistent interface behavior
- Styling controlled through project-specific design tokens
- Support for Fal.ai, OpenRouter, or a custom model engine
- Separate React, token, and styling packages for application setup
Component Workflow
The available example uses the Chai UI Composer to create a working prompt bar in React. Application state supplies the current prompt value, while change handling keeps that value updated as the user types.
When the prompt is submitted, the component passes the information it tracks to the application's submission handler. The component is imported from the React package, with token and component styles loaded separately.
Project Scope
The displayed release is version 0.6.0 and lists four components, 138 tokens, and three packages. This structure positions Chai UI as a focused interface foundation for developers building generative AI applications rather than a standalone model or end-user chatbot.
